Topic: How to get a research gap in an interested topic

Instructor: Professor Dr. Tanakorn Wongwuttanasatian | Faculty of Engineering, Khon Kaen University, Thailand

Time duration: 14:00-16:00

Date: March 6, 2026 | Friday

A comprehensive literature evaluation and a research gap that is a novelty of the work are essential components of a successful research proposal. An essential component of publication is novelty. Therefore, the starting point of research is the identification of a suitable gap, and it ends with a well-chosen publication. Step-by-step instructions are provided in this tutorial session for identifying a research missing link. Participants will acquire the ability to search for recent, relevant works, which will subsequently enable them to identify research gaps. A thorough literature review can generate research points that are subsequently necessary for future projects. This mission will employ a user-friendly search tool to identify a new research topic, establish objectives, and ultimately develop a strong proposal.

Short Biography of Instructor

Prof. Dr. Tanakorn Wongwuttanasatian has been employed in the Mechanical Engineering Division of Khon Kaen University (KKU), Thailand. In 1994, he earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from KKU and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leeds, UK, in 2000. He has authored over 100 publications, including those in international journals and conferences, and has made significant contributions to the field of energy engineering research. He has been conducting research in the field of energy, with a particular emphasis on energy conversion and management. Biomass and solar energy, which are the primary energy sources in the vicinity of his workplace, are of particular interest. He has also acted as a conference committee member and as a reviewer for numerous renowned international journals. He has recently served as a guest editor for a research topic in the Frontier in Energy research journal. At present, he is engaged in the implementation of a biomass and waste management project, as well as solar PV cooling to facilitate efficient conversion.
